Art and Illusion: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation
The Susquehanna Art Museum is thrilled to showcase works from one of the country’s most prominent art collections of modern and contemporary art in an exhibition called Art and Illusion: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation. The exhibition will run from October 3, 2008 to April 19, 2009 in the Museum’s main galleries. Such a significant selection of modern and contemporary art has never before been seen in the Capital Region. Including paintings, photography and sculpture, the eclectic exhibition curated by the Foundation’s director, Billie Milam Weisman, celebrates artists’ use of illusion and humor to create new ways of looking at the world.
The over 70 works of art traveling to Harrisburg from Los Angeles span nearly three-quarters a half of a century of modern and contemporary art. and are particularly strong in works from early European Modernism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, SuperRealism, and contemporary Californian art. These holdings are part of a larger collection particularly strong in works from early European Modernism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, SuperRealism, and contemporary California art. that was established in 1982 as the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, whichwas established in 1982 and since 1994, is has been currently under the direction of Billie Milam Weisman.
